Publishing Your Journal in Open Journal Systems

Open Journal Systems (OJS) is an open-source software platform developed by the Public Knowledge Project, based at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia.  OJS is a comprehensive journal management tool and is perfect for building a journal from start to finish.  Some of OJS's benefits include:

  • Flexible and configurable editorial workflow
  • Online submission and management of all content
  • Integration with Crossref, ORCiD, and the Directory of Open Access Journals
  • Responsive reader front-end with a selection of free themes and designs

For more information on OJS and its features, please visit the OJS webpage.

Learning to Use OJS

Open Journal Systems has an excellent array of training materials available for users.  Public Knowledge Project has created an entire website devoted to preparing users to create high-quality journals that follow best practices.  PKP School is free to use and presents the material in easily-digestible chunks.  All you need to do is register a free account with the site.  We recommend the following modules for those interested in starting or continuing their journal on our OJS platform:
