Open Access (OA) Publishing for Faculty: Publishing in OA Publications

Answers to frequently asked questions about how the Library can support AUC faculty in open access publishing.

How Do I Publish in an Open Access Journal?

Woodruff Library is a member of GALILEO, the state virtual library consortium and as such, we have been able to participate in two new transformative publishing agreements, one with the American Chemical Society (ACS), and one with the Cambridge University Press. These agreements provide both access to OA journals, and publishing opportunities on their OA journals.

American Chemical Society (ACS) Agreement

The American Chemical Society (ACS) agreement gives us access to 82 ACS journals, and

  • 2.5% cap on renewal costs for three years
  • GALILEO affiliated authors can publish up to 350 articles per year as open access under a Creative Commons BY license at no cost to them.

Cambridge University Press Agreement

The Cambridge agreement provides:

  • Online-only access to the CUP Full Journals Package (409 journals)
  • Perpetual access to all journal volumes published within the agreement term
  • Shallow back-file access in line with individual journal terms, for the duration of the agreement term
  • Any subscription journals added to the package will be included at no extra charge
  • Uncapped or capped no-cost OA publishing in all hybrid and gold OA journals within the CUP Full Journals Package
