In the 2024 U.S. presidential election, Black voters continued to predominantly support the Democratic candidate, Kamala Harris, though there was a noticeable shift compared to previous elections. Approximately 83% of Black voters cast their ballots for Harris, a decrease from the 91% who supported Joe Biden in 2020. Conversely, Republican candidate Donald Trump increased his share of the Black vote to around 13%, nearly doubling his support from 2020.
This shift was particularly evident among young Black men, where Trump's support approximately doubled compared to the last presidential election. Despite these changes, Black women remained a strong base for the Democratic Party, with 92% supporting Harris. In contrast, 21% of Black men voted for Trump, indicating a gender disparity in voting patterns within the Black community. These trends suggest a nuanced shift in political allegiances among Black voters, highlighting the importance of targeted and persuasive communication to address the diverse concerns within this demographic.
