*Generations of K-Pop in the 2000s tends to bleed over into each other. The years are defined by research of Patrice Williams, Humanities Librarian.

Based on culture consensus, the generations of K-Pop are as follows:

  • 1st Gen: 1992-2003
  • 2nd Gen: 2003-2011/2012
  • 3rd Gen: 2012/2013-2018/2019
  • 4th Gen: 2018/2019-2023
  • 5th Gen: 2023-?
  • 6th Gen: ? *There is also a discussion by Korean netizens that a 6th generation of K-Pop idols have started but there is no concrete dates I found.
