Anime and Manga: North American Publishers

Founded 1980, Dark Horse Comics has a long history of publishing original comic book works and entered publishing television, manga, and video game adaptations in the last twenty years.

Aniplex Amerca is the North American branch of the Japanese publisher Aniplex. They have partnerships with other anime American publishers to further English dubbing. Popular titles include Ruroni Kenshin and Sword Art Online.

Sentai Filmworks is a North American anime licensing company. Popular titles include Akame ga Kill! and Fate! Stay Series.

Viz Media is the North American publisher of Shueisha's Weekly Shounen Jump. They have licensed many popular manga and anime titles such as Naruto and Dragon Ball Z.

Founded in 1997 TOKYOPOP, part of POP Media Holdings, introduced the term "manga" into English and business for North America. Many anime and manga fans have nostalgia with this company as it was the first North American publisher of manga before Viz Media and many others came along.

Kodasha Comics USA is the North American branch of the Japanese publishing company Kodansha. Popular titles include Cardcaptor Sakura and Fairy Tail.

Crunchyroll was the first online streaming service for Anime that allows simulcast where users can stream the same anime episode an hour after airing in Japan with subtitles. Manga titles are also being added to the website as well.

Funimation is a large North American publisher that specializes in translating and dubbing many anime for an English audience. Popular titles include Full Metal Alchemist and Attack on Titan!

Founded in 2006, Yen Press is a joint venture between Kadokawa Corporation and Hachette Book Group, dedicated to publishing manga and graphic novels for adults and young readers. It has become a driving force in the introduction of light novels to new readers through its Yen On imprint.
