Mechademia: An Annual Forum for Anime, Manga and the Fan Arts. Mechademia’s subject area extends from manga and anime to game design, fashion, graphics, packaging, and toy industries, as well as a broad range of fan practices related to popular culture in Japan. We are interested in how the academic and fan communities can provide new possibilities for critical thinking and popular writing. Welcome to the homepage of the Fandom and Neomedia Studies (FANS) Conference. We are excited to share with the world our organization dedicated to the study and appreciation of all fandom and media products and phenomena.
Ours is an interdisciplinary group, including historians, psychologists, geologists, writers, and independent scholars. We welcome contributions from all disciplines and from all levels of academic achievement. To that end, we have a rolling CFP for reviews and and articles for The Phoenix Papers, an online, open access, peer-reviewed journal. This journal includes reviews, full papers, and also the of papers presented at our annual conference. Our conference, held in June each year, is hosted by A-Kon in Dallas, Texas.

ejcjs is an international academic journal in the Social Sciences and Humanities that publishes research and scholarly writing on all issues related to contemporary Japan. The journal adopts a multi-disciplinary stance in the hope that it will contribute to a deeper understanding of Japan and Japanese people and that it will, consequently, enrich our understanding of the totality of human experience. We encourage submissions in all areas of academic endeavour that have contemporary Japan as their focus but that also relate Japan to broader developments elsewhere. Contributions are posted as and when we receive, review, and edit them.

The Intersections electronic journal was originally published by Anne Marie Medcalf and Carolyn Brewer from a site at Murdoch University in Western Australia. At that time it was conceived of as an interactive forum for new research and teaching in the area of Gender Studies in the Asian region. Between September 1998 and mid 2007, fifteen issues were published under the sub-title, Gender, History and Culture in the Asian Context. In 2006, Anne-Marie resigned to focus her time on different interests.

The objective of ImageTexT is to advance the academic study of an emerging and diverse canon of imagetexts. Chief among these are comic books, comic strips, and animations, but also represented are illustrated fiction, children’s picture books, digital-concrete poetic forms, visual rhetoric, etc. Any work or works, tradition, school of thought, or critical method that foregrounds the intersections, interrelations, and disjunctions between text and image is an appropriate subject for inquiry and debate in these pages. Under the guidance of an editorial board of scholars from a variety of disciplines, ImageTexT publishes solicited and peer-reviewed papers that investigate the material, historical, theoretical, and cultural implications of visual textuality. ImageTexT welcomes essays emphasizing (but not limited to) the aesthetics, cognition, production, reception, distribution and dissemination of imagetexts, along with translations of previously existing research in the field of visual culture.

Founded in 2010, The Comics Grid: Journal of Comics Scholarship is an open-access, researcher-led, peer-reviewed academic journal. The journal aims to publish original and specialised contributions to the field of comics scholarship from multidisciplinary and media-specific perspectives.

The journal aims to promote innovative comics scholarship where the writing is energetic and theoretically and interpretively bold, and that presents specialised knowledge in accessible and engaging forms. It also considers submissions that explore the ways in which comics can be used for scholarly purposes.

The multi – disciplinary nature of fan studies makes the development of a community of scholars sometimes difficult to achieve. The Journal of Fandom Studies seeks to offer scholars a dedicated publication that promotes current scholarship into the fields of fan and audience studies across a variety of media. It focuses on the critical exploration, within a wide range of disciplines and fan cultures, of issues surrounding production and consumption of popular media (including film, music, television, sports and gaming), The journal aims to address key issues in fans studies itself, while also fostering new areas of enquiry that take us beyond the bounds of current scholarship.

New Media & Society engages in critical discussions of the key issues arising from the scale and speed of new media development, drawing on a wide range of disciplinary perspectives and on both theoretical and empirical research.

M/C Journal was founded (as "M/C – A Journal of Media and Culture") in 1998 as a place of public intellectualism analysing and critiquing the meeting of media and culture. M/C Journal is a fully blind-, peer-reviewed academic journal, open to submissions from anyone. We take seriously the need to move ideas outward, so that our cultural debates may have some resonance with wider political and cultural interests. Each issue is organised around a one-word theme (see our past issues), and is edited by one or more guest editors with a particular interest in that theme. Each issue has a feature article which engages with the theme in some detail, followed by several shorter articles.

Television & New Media (TVNM), explores the fields of television and new media studies as they focus on the historical, ethnographic, political-economic, technological, and textual dimensions of media in social contexts. With eight issues annually, TVNM engages with critical and interdisciplinary research in areas including audiences and consumers; authors and producers; cultural history and geography; globalization; policy; citizenship; activism; and pedagogy. The journal also actively explores the intersections between social identities, such as race, class, and gender. This journal is a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

The Journal of Japanese Studies is the most influential journal dealing with research on Japan available in the English language. Since 1974, it has published the results of scholarly research on Japan in a wide variety of social science and humanities disciplines, as well as translations of articles from Japanese and substantive book reviews.

New Voices in Japanese Studies is an open-access, peer-reviewed interdisciplinary journal showcasing research by emerging scholars in the humanities and social sciences.

Intensities is an online journal first launched at Cardiff University in 2001 under the editorship of Matt Hills and Sara Gwenllian Jones. It later moved to Brunel University, where it was edited by David Lavery, and is currently edited (still at Brunel) by Leon Hunt. Intensities will publish two issues a year. The journal addresses all aspects of cult media including cult television, cult film, cult radio, cult comics, literary cults and cult authors, new media cults, cult figures and celebrities, cult icons, musical cults, cult geographies, historical studies of media cults and their fandoms, cult genres (e.g. science fiction, horror, fantasy, pulp fiction, Manga, anime, Hong Kong film etc.), non-generic modes of cultishness, theorisations of cult media, relevant audience and readership studies, and work that addresses the cult media industry.

Science Fiction Studies is published three times a year (March, July, November) by SF-TH Inc. at DePauw University. The Science Fiction Studies Website publishes abstracts of all articles, as well as the full texts of all reviews, historical documents, and selected essays appearing in the journal since its founding in 1973 by R.D. Mullen. Full texts of articles are posted only after an issue has been sold out.

Offering a fresh approach to East Asia and Asian American studies, positions employs theoretical and multidisciplinary methods in creating a provocative forum for vigorous debate. Through expansive scholarly articles, commentaries, poetry, photo spreads, and political and philosophical debates, contributors consider a broad variety of pressing questions from a striking range of perspectives.
