II. Guidelines for Collection Development

Language

English, but may include translations of significant works. Foreign language materials may be obtained via the Woodruff Library Interlibrary Loan Service.

Chronological Coverage

Emphasis is on contemporary resources due to frequent changes and developments in the discipline. An attempt is made to acquire titles designated as classic works by the discipline.

Geographical Coverage

Collection focused on information resources relevant to the study, teaching and research of computer and information science and related topics without regard to geographical origin.

Scope

The undergraduate Computer and Information Science collection focuses primarily on theory, principles, applications, and ethics. The graduate collection focuses on more of the same yet with more intensive concentrations on practice and applications, and on introductory research material relevant to the fields of fundamental and applied Computer and Information Science.

III. Types of Materials & Formats Collected

Monograph (book) sources are purchased in ebook form. Journals that are relevant to this discipline are also in electronic format and are indexed and included in either publisher online libraries or aggregator databases.

IV. Collection Strengths and Weaknesses

Computer and Information Science applications continuously evolve--often rapidly--with each discovery, development, and advancement in the field. With that efforts are made on a regular basis to keep especially the monograph collection stocked with more up-to-date materials. Faculty always have the opportunity to recommend titles for purchase.

Journal article coverage in specialized publisher online libraries and aggregator databases is very robust. Wherever article non-accessibility is a concern, the matter is easily resolved through our interlibrary loan service.

V. Standard Inclusions & Exclusions

Textbooks are not considered for purchase due to their tendency to be superseded.
